The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework that all early years settings must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well.  At St. Mary’s this refers to the EYFS (Hedgehogs and Squirrels). It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are ready for school and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

The framework can be found here Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – Schools.  We teach this framework through topics that excite the children. Observation, assessment and planning are key to effective learning.  Observations provide us with the opportunity to understand children’s level of development, interests and learning styles. We use this information to plan next steps; providing learning experiences which reflect children’s needs and interests.
