Respect is an important value because it is also a fundamental British value as well as one of our chosen Christian values.
Once inside the city, Jesus went into the temple courtyard. He saw the money-changers and the dove-sellers busy making money for themselves and he was angry.
Jesus took hold of one table after another, and overturned them. Money scattered everywhere.
“This is God’s house!” he said. “It is a place for people to pray and worship but you have made it into a dishonest marketplace, a den for thieves and robbers!”.
Every day Jesus taught in the temple, surrounded by crowds of people not wanting to miss anything he said. Other came to him to be healed; the blind people, the deaf, those who couldn’t walk or suffered from various illnesses – anyone who needed Jesus came, and he healed them.
This story teaches us about respecting our environment, the buildings, nature and the world around us.
In other places the Bible teaches us to respect each other regardless of our differences “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7 verse 12) and “Show proper respect to everyone” (1 Peter 2 verse 17)
