School Virtual Tour

Ashford St. Mary’s C of E Primary School is close to Ashford town centre. We are a two-form entry school with a published admission number of 420. We admit 60 children into our Reception classes in the September after their 4th birthday. As a church school our governors admit pupils in accordance with our admission criteria (see below). A supplementary information form, which is attached to our admissions criteria should be completed if you wish to claim church affiliation.

 

PRIMARY SCHOOL PLACES FOR CHILDREN STARTING SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2023 – (CHILDREN BORN BETWEEN 1ST SEPTEMBER 2018 AND 31ST AUGUST 2019)

On offer day (Monday 17 April 2023) an email will be sent after 4pm informing you of your offer.  You will then need to inform the school by emailing admissions@st-marys-ashford.kent.sch.uk to accept or decline your child’s place by Monday 1st May.

When you receive the offer of a school place from KCC, you will be asked to provide the school with evidence that you and your child live at the address used on your application.  

Proof of your address should include:

  • Council Tax statement for 2021/22 and 2022/23 OR
  • Signed Tenancy Agreement or Exchange of Contracts/Completion document

Plus at least one of these:

  • Child/Working Tax Credit/Child Benefit/JSA/Disability Benefit Letter or Statement
  • Driving Licence
  • Schedule of Motor Insurance
  • Utility bills such as Gas/Water/Electric/Sky/Virgin Media/BT/Broadband etc
  • Payslip

Proof that your child lives at the same address can be any of:

  • Doctor/Hospital appointment letter in the child’s name
  • Savings account or bank statement in the child’s name
  • Child benefit statement
  • Letter from their nursery / preschool / current school

These documents should be dated within the application window of Friday 4 November 2022 – Friday 10 February 2023.  We need to see ALL THREE of these documents for EVERY child being admitted (even those who have siblings at school already). If you are unable to provide the above documents, to prove your child’s only or main residence, the Local Authority has the right to take your child’s place away.

APPEALS PROCESS FOR CHILDREN DUE TO START SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2023

If you were not offered a place at the school that you applied for, you can join the school waiting list and also have the statutory right to appeal this decision.  You can lodge an appeal by Tuesday 16th May 2023 for a school you have applied for but were not offered.  Appeals lodged by this date will be heard by Thursday 18th July 2023.  Any appeals received after this time will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline, or where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.

ADMISSIONS FOR CHILDREN ALREADY AT PRIMARY SCHOOL

If you are a parent wishing to apply for a place for your child at our school you will need to complete the In Year Admissions Form . Please return the completed form back to school. You will need to fill in a separate form for each child. You will hear from us within 15 (school) days. If we are unable to offer a place we will confirm this to you in writing and you can choose to have your child’s name  added to our waiting list until there is a space, at which point, the over-subscription criteria is applied to ascertain who the place is offered to.
